PerkinElmer joins EDMA
EDMA, the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association, is pleased to welcome ExonHit Therapeutics amongst its corporate affiliates, bringing the Association's overall membership to 41 major companies and 23 national associations.
ExonHit Therapeutics is an innovative healthcare player, active in both diagnostics and therapeutics. The company's focus lies on Alzheimer's disease and cancer indications. Next to its headquarters in Paris (France), it also has offices in Gaithersburg, Maryland (USA). It was founded in 1997 and currently has 65 employees.
ExonHit Therapeutics is a world leader in the exploitation of alternative RNA splicing, the process by which a single gene can produce several proteins. When deregulated, this process can contribute to the development of diseases. The company's ability to identify genes whose splice variants produce abnormal proteins can be used to develop biomarkers for diagnosing diseases at an early stage and also to identify novel therapeutic targets.
Early December 2009, the company launched its first product - AclarusDxTM - the first blood biomarker aimed to select or stratify patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease as a 'research use only' product targeted to pharmaceutical companies and academic institutes performing clinical research. The European launch of this innovative technology in the clinical in vitro diagnostic market is planned in 2011.
“Alzheimer's disease is a complex pathology whose diagnosis for the time being is mainly based on clinical exams. AclarusDxTM offers the possibility of better identifying subjects who are not properly characterised, thus enhancing the overall success of clinical research,” Loïc Maurel, M.D., President of the ExonHit Therapeutics Management Board explained.
In this and other related areas, EDMA looks forward to a fruitful cooperation with ExonHit Therapeutics, for a healthier today and a better tomorrow.
